AREA COMMISSIONER – DARTMOUTH January 31, 2012 Are you looking for a challenge? Get involved as a volunteer with Canada’s leading youth movement and make a difference in the growth and development of youth in your community? Are you energetic, organized … a natural leader who can work at the top level to support and lead volunteers? Do you enjoy being part of a dynamic team? If you are interested you are invited to submit your application for the volunteer position for Area Commissioner. and Area Youth Commissioner for Dartmouth Area You will be accountable to and work closely with the provincial Council Commissioner in ensuring that your Area delivers effective orientation, training, support and servicing to youth and leaders in a safe, high quality program environment. Your appointment will be for a one year term, renewable for a maximum of three years. You will represent the Area at the annual Council conference. Travel throughout the Area to attend meetings and events will be required. The time commitment, on average, is 16 ‐ 20 hours per month. You will work closely with other members of the Council Leadership Team, the Council Executive Director and staff, as well as your Area Youth Commissioner and Area Leadership Team members to help plan and manage the affairs of the Area as the principal point of contact for program management, membership development, and ensuring a safe environment for youth to learn and develop. As the Area Commissioner you will take the lead on overall management of the Area’s Scouting programs, operations and financial spending. Working in the positive Scouting spirit with your local Group Commissioners, you will lead the development of the Area’s Action Plan and champion its roll-out in support of Council’s Action Plans and strategic directions. You will provide assistance and leadership to Group Commissioners, seeking youth level input into all Area activities, to monitor the Area’s and each Group’s progress towards Scouts Canada Quality Program Standards. You will provide feedback and recognition to Area leaders including service awards, identifying training needs, and dealing with complaints. Your upbeat, positive attitude will encourage a climate favorable for growth of Canada’s best youth movement and support the promotion of all seven programs currently offered for youth aged 5 – 26.
